Parashat Vayetzei

Shalom Chaverim.

I am currently out of the country celebrating Thanksgiving with friends.

As a new American, I have begun to appreciate this secular holiday of family, friends and gratitude.

Of course Judaism embraces all holidays, religious and secular, particularly when they further elevate Jewish values

I am taking a moment to attach on this important day a reading from our Shabbat prayer book (Siddur) a psalmic reading which poses and answers the question, “how can we make this day more Jewish?”

It is especially meaningful as we reflect upon events both in Israel and around the world how blessed we are truly are to live in the United States.

For while Judaism constantly thanks God for our bounty and the privilege of walking this earth, we can always ask, “what more can we do?”

The attached reading encourages us to embrace Thanksgiving while also inspiring us to uplift the lives of others.

It's wonderful reading to further enhance this national day of gratitude.

Chag Sameach, Shabbat Shalom.
